RRS Choices

After spending the morning trying to navigate Flakepages, I found Google Reader to be much more user friendly. So...that is the RRS I am going with as of now. However, I am still determined to conquer Flakepages.

I am proud to say that I have figured out how to display the blogs that I am following- they can be found at the bottom of my blog page.

As of now, I have subscribed to all of my classmates blogs (at least those that were listed on the Basic Blogging site). I also subscribed to 3 others. As I am sure that one will not count for this class, due to it being the personal blog of a friend, I will keep looking for another educational blog. I subscribed to Angie Hintz technology blog and the blog of my school's technology guru, Debby Acevedo. I find both of these ladies to be very knowledgeable and look forward to keeping up to date on their technological insights.

Google Reader

Well, this one sure is a lot easier. I did nothing, yet can see all the updates from everyone's blogs. Ahh...finally something is working right!

Pageflakes

I think, more to the point, it is 'Erinflake' not 'Pageflake'. Why can I not figure this out? I am feeling more and more flakey by the day. I viewed myself as fairly computer savvy, but have met my match in the blogging world. I decided to use Pageflake for my assignment. But...I can not for the life of me figure out HOW to subscribe to the blogs of people in this class via that site. What am I missing??

Week 2 Reflections

What did you learn?
This week I have learned that it is not helpful to act violently towards my computer out of frustration. I am annoyed with the advatar (as previously mentioned) and I dislike the empty space on the right of my main blog page. Other than that, I learned that I will quickly become obsessed with blogging.

How will you use what you have learned?
I plan to use what I have learned this week to eventually create a blog for my classroom.

How did you feel about staring a blog?
I am happy to start a blog. I have attempted in the past to have a blog, but after the first few days, I always abandon it.

How can this be used in the classroom or in your educational role?
I believe my blog will be helpful in communicating with parents whether it is about assignments, classroom news, coming events, or at home learning ideas.

What questions do you still have about this your blog?
At this point, my blog questions are all about layout and making it look better.

Not A Fan of Advatars

I have spent entirely too much time on my advatar. I am not sure what the outside world sees, but from my end I see an empty box that says Yahoo Advatar on my page. Grrr...

Anyway, the purpose to this blog is to practice and reflect on what I learn in Basic Blogging Class. I hope to learn a new and fun way to communicate with both students and parents.

Hi. My name is Erin Dalton Haid. I currently teach 3rd grade at Bluebonnet Elementary.

I was born and raised in Austin, graduating from Anderson High School in 1993. I then went to Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches. I began teaching in 1997. My first job was at McDade Elementary- a small rural school district about 7 miles east of Elgin. I taught in McDade until 2008. The 2008-2009 school year was my first in Round Rock.
